Love, Joy, Peace...

People need people.

Life is tough as it is but it’s even tougher when you don’t have people to help you. Since the beginning of the Church, Christians have met together to help one another. In Acts 2:42-47, a passage we will read during our worship this morning, we see Christians devoting themselves to teaching, fellowship, breaking of bread, and prayers. That is a large chunk of what Christians do together! As we keep reading the book of Acts, we see the Church together in evangelism and ministry and worship. We see them just being together sometimes in large groups, sometimes in small groups.

Matthew will be talking in detail in his sermon about why we are starting Small Groups and how we plan for them to work. But for now, consider this brief definition of a small group:

A Christian small group is an intentional face-to-face gathering of about 15 people on a regular time schedule with the common purpose of growing in Christ, deepening relationships, and reaching out to non-members.

When: Small Groups meet the first and third Sunday evenings each month.

Who: our Small Groups will be geographically based and multigenerational because we all need each other. You don’t have to be a member of Goodman Oaks to join a small group! We welcome everyone to be a part of this experience.

Where: Some small groups meet in our church facilities and some meet in members' homes.

What: our Small Groups will ask the question, What is God doing in your life? As we study the written Word together in Bible Class, as we hear the proclaimed Word together in worship, one more thing we need is the applied Word in Small Groups. So while we learn about what God has done in Scripture, our Small Groups will explore the reality of what God is doing in each of our lives.
